Volunteers

In order to participate in SDSU VITA, students must enroll in Acctg 409 during the Spring semester. There are other VITA sites in San Diego where non-SDSU students can volunteer. See the IRS VITA website for locations.

The annual tax-filing season each spring provides opportunities for San Diego State accounting majors to gain hands-on experience preparing income tax returns through VITA. Volunteers of the program perform a variety of duties. Some prepare federal and state income tax returns, while others assist clients with intake questions.

VITA stresses critical thinking, analysis, and the development of excellent communication skills. Volunteers also develop interviewing skills on confidential matters, and learn to investigate with a human relations dimension, through this nationally recognized program.

VITA Volunteer Benefits:
