The office of Corporate and Community Involvement coordinates consulting projects for MBA students in conjunction with BA795. We strive for projects with local companies in all areas of Business: Accounting, Finance, Financial Services, Human Resources Management, Information Systems, Management, Marketing, and Real Estate.
To be eligible for BA795, you must be in your final semester of coursework and register for BA795 through the College of Business Graduate Office. You must provide resume information to the office of Corporate and Community Involvement. Your background information will be used in order to place you on a team of 3-4 graduate students with similar interests and backgrounds. Teams will then be matched to projects.
Consulting projects are designed to be between 500-600 hours long, typically with a set beginning and end. Each team will be assigned a faculty advisor, and be required to complete both a written report and presentation for course and project completion.
BA 404 Small Business Consulting, will be offered on Friday from 10:00 – 12:40 by Dr. John Francis. Students will act as "small business consultants" to selected businesses, with the City of San Diego Small Business Enhancement Program, working in four member teams to provide consulting assistance. Teams will work on one semester-long consulting project.
BA 404 can be taken either as a business elective or in lieu of BA 405 [a required course]. Marketing students can elect to take this course in lieu of one Marketing elective course [with one unit of MKT 498 to yield a total of four units]. Management students can take this course in lieu of one Management elective course (but cannot take the course in lieu of BA 405).
The class will be small [30 students maximum]. Students must apply to take the course, which fills quickly, so plan to register as early as possible. Please visit our website and complete the course application.
