The United States Association for Small Business Entrepreneurship (USASBE) awarded Erin Chmelik, a recent SDSU M.B.A. graduate, with the Best Paper in Social Entrepreneurship award during their annual meeting on January 12, 2013.

Chmelik's paper, Measures of Performance in the Context of International Social Ventures, was one of 102 submitted from throughout the U.S. – primarily by academics – and one of only nine selected for review. She was notified that her paper (co-authored with SDSU Professor Martina Musteen) had been selected for the top award about seven months after she earned her degree from SDSU in May 2012.

Chmelik developed the paper from her Master's Thesis with the help of Dr. Musteen during the summer after her graduation. "Erin's research offered some excellent insight on how different types of social ventures assess their effectiveness in meeting their goals," said Musteen. "The information presented within the paper clearly struck a chord with USASBE and those of us at SDSU's College of Business are proud of Erin for her outstanding achievement."

After traveling and working in India and East Africa since graduation, Erin is currently engaged in seeking employment doing business development in Africa.
