Diverse Issues in Higher Education magazine honored Gregory Allen as an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar for 2013.

Allen, a sophomore studying management and San Diego native, earned the highest GPA 3.76 men's college baseball.

Allen is the Aztecs' starting center fielder who is hitting .282 and leads the team in runs scored, walks and stolen bases. As a freshman he was named a Mountain West Scholar-Athlete and was selected to the conference all-academic team.

In 2012, Allen was named to the league's West All-Star Team.

About the award

Diverse Issues in Higher Education started the Sports Scholars Awards to honor undergraduate student athletes with diverse backgrounds who have excelled both on and off the field.

In addition to their athletic ability, Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars must exhibit academic excellence and community activism. To be included, students must compete in an intercollegiate sport, maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 and be active on their campuses or in their communities.
