M.B.A. Grad Recognized at SDSU's Student Research Symposium
Elysha Decker, a 2012 SDSU M.B.A. graduate, was one of two winners of the College of Business Dean's award, (a $250 prize) and one of the two winners of the university-wide Scholars Without Borders prize (a $100 award) presented by SDSU provost Nancy Marlin during the university's 6th Annual Student Research Symposium held March 8 and 9, 2013. Her faculty advisors were marketing professors, Dr. Don Sciglimpaglia and Dr. Iana Castro.
The research focused on PriceSmart, the largest club membership store in Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean. It analyzed whether PriceSmart's new Familiares y Amigos (Family and Friends) Program would be successful in the test market of El Salvador.
The Familiares y Amigos Program allows Salvadorans living in the U.S. to purchase products online for family and friends in El Salvador that can then be picked up at a local PriceSmart store. The research sampled 299 people in both the U.S. and El Salvador and found that the program was perceived as valuable by current and potential users.
Elysha is now associate project manager at San Diego-based Covario for its Global BlackBerry account.
