Panel Discusses San Diego Business Forecast for 2014
The College of Business Administration and Lavin Entrepreneurship Center convened the first of their new quarterly Business Forum Speaker Series on January 28, 2014. The series kicked off with a panel discussion titled Economic Outlook: A San Diego Business Perspective. The session featured four high-profile local business leaders who discussed the economic forecasts for their respective industries.
The session was moderated by Stuart Sorenson of series sponsor Duane Morris LLP, who asked a sequence of questions and then opened the floor for audience discussion with the panel members. Those seated on the panel included George Hadjis, founder and CEO of Oggi's Pizza and Brewing Company; David Marino, executive vice president of Hughes Marino; Susan Salka, CEO, president and director of AMN Healthcare Systems Inc.; and Jerry Sanders, former mayor and current president and CEO of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The panelists agreed that the economic forecasts for each of their industries have been steadily improving and that innovation would drive future success. But the challenges facing each industry varied from the proposed increase in minimum wage to infrastructure to political obstacles confronting the business community. The panelists also shared some of their strategic objectives to overcome these hurdles.
"Our inaugural speaker series event was a major success in bringing together the top leaders from the local business community to exchange ideas, information and strategies," said Dr. Alex DeNoble, executive director for the Lavin Entrepreneurship Center and SDSU professor of management. "We look forward to hosting the next three Business Forum Speaker Series events that will commence throughout 2014. Each subsequent event will feature another topic of interest and importance to our local economy."
The 2014 Business Forum Speaker Series is made possible thanks to the generous support of platinum sponsor Duane Morris LLP and silver sponsors Moss Adams LLP and City National Bank.
