Salehizadeh Wins Top Faculty Award
SDSU finance department chair and professor, Dr. Mehdi Salehizadeh, was named the 2014 recipient of the Alumni Association Award for Outstanding Faculty Contributor from the College of Business Administration. Known as the "Faculty Monty", the award was presented to Salehizadeh during the annual All-University Convocation on August 21, 2014.
The Faculty Monty is SDSU’s most prestigious faculty award which is presented annually to one faculty member from each of SDSU's seven colleges.
Salehizadeh joined the department of finance as an assistant professor in 1980. He earned his Ph.D. in international business, finance and economics from the University of Wisconsin the same year.
A Student Favorite
“Uncle Mehdi” has long been known as a student favorite having been named as Outstanding Faculty Member twice by students in the Executive MBA program and 13 times as the Most Influential Professor by the top undergraduate finance student, most recently in 2014.

Said one of Salehizadeh’s recent students: “It was so nice to have a finance professor at SDSU who was passionate about what he taught, was able to give examples that related to current events, and could communicate effectively.” Another said “His lectures were interesting and FULL of relevant, current examples and articles. He was very entertaining and funny as well. I also felt like he respected his students and spoke with us in a very kind/polite way.”
Many Contributions to SDSU
Nominated for the award “on the basis of his historical and continuing contributions that have served the Department of Finance, College of Business Administration and San Diego State University”, Salehizadeh has chaired the university’s Promotions and Tenure Review panel, served as a member of the SDSU senate, many departmental committees, and was most recently the chair of the committee which sought, located and helped select a new dean for the College of Business in 2014. He was also instrumental in maintaining the student-run Aztec Equity Fund which gives graduate and undergraduate students real-world experience in stock portfolio management. And with his establishment of the Finance Advisory Board, Salehizadeh has actively engaged in fundraising efforts that have enabled many new student learning experiences and faculty research opportunities.
