Padres Executives Address SDSU Sports Business MBA Students

At the invitation of San Diego Padres Senior Vice President and CFO, Ronda Sedillo (’94, accounting), students and faculty members from San Diego State’s Sports Business MBA program were given the opportunity to meet with Padres executives and learn about how their career paths led them to a Major League Baseball team.

The meeting took place in a suite at Petco Park’s Western Metal Building during a game between the Padres and the Miami Marlins on July 23, 2015. The executives each gave a short presentation about their educational and career backgrounds, as well as their responsibilities within the Padres organization. Students and faculty were then given the floor to ask questions and learn more about each executive.

In addition to Sedillo, other Padres executives meeting with the group included:

  • Sue Botos, Vice President, Community Relations
  • Katie Jackson, Director of Brand Marketing and Activation
  • Nick Ennis, Director of Baseball Operations
  • Ryan Gustafson, Senior Director, Strategy and Innovation
  • Erik McKenzie, Vice President, Sales
  • Danielle Sergeant, Director, Partnership Services

“The night was highlighted by excellent food and amazing views of the ballgame,” said Dr. David DeBoskey, the accounting professor who organized the event. “Although the Padres lost the game, the students won tremendous insights into the day-to-day life of a sports executive.”
